Blog

Yes, I’m a photographer. But here’s the deal. That’s only part of me. I know so many people whose profession is photography but it seems like they have no life outside of that. I understand obsession but balance is a good thing. So, photography is my profession but there are so many other things that make me Mark.

So, that’s what this little section of my website is about. Yes, I’ll talk about photography and some of the shoots I’m doing and maybe have some tips and tricks. But you can also read about other stuff that stirs my fancy as well. And I usually won’t post completed images from shoots here; that’s why my portfolio exists.

Oh, and if it looks like there are major gaps in writing. That’s because life got too busy. But I’ve got some systems in place to start making it easier to post here. Let’s just see how it goes.

Anyone who knows me knows that I really like to ask questions. It’s such a simple thing and you can never be accused of being a bad conversationalist. Remind me sometime to tell you the Dale Carnegie story. Anyway, a blog I recently read had a great question to ask. Try it out, just ask your partner, friends, family, and new acquaintances: Let’s say you can have free, for five years, the services of ONE of the following… which would you choose & why:

  • Cook (a really talented one) 1x1.trans Questions
  • Personal trainer
  • Personal assistant
  • Housekeeper
  • Driver
  • Nanny

Easy call for me, Housekeeper. Holy cow! To be able to not have to worry about laundry, dusting (in Lubbock, TX, you could dust daily and not ever catch up), vacuuming, etc. Now, if I could get the same services out of a Personal Assistant, that might work as well.

1x1.trans Aristotle and Excellence Hadn’t read this quote in a while. Aristotle once said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” I like the fact that we don’t show our work until it’s reached perfection (or as close as humanly possible). So, realize that if we’re showing you images we’ve created for you, we actually think they’re good. Not an egotistical thing, just a “we want you to have the best” thing.

Okay, just talking with my friend Rachel Robinson today and she was upset with my lack of posts on this blog. She’s right. I haven’t been keeping it up to date. So, for a change, guess what, I’m gonna change.

Things have been great lately. We’ve been photographing sooooo many high school seniors. We love it (with the exception that our flying under the radar thing has stopped). Wedding season has also begun. So if you’re planning on booking with us, be sure to call several weeks in advance.

I’ve gotta get new picture of our dog, Tink, up here. She’s grown enormously and since you’ve seen her as a puppy, now you gotta see her 7 months or so in.

Alex got a new puppy for Christmas (soapbox: please don’t buy a puppy from a store (probably mill-bred), there are plenty beautiful dogs available at places like local animal shelters and The Haven). So, we got to the studio and took some fun pix. BTW, her name is Tink (think Tinkerbell, Alex’s newest obsession).

Alex got to participate in the Ranching Heritage Center Candlelighting this weekend. About 6000 people came to tour, looking at the old homes and structures of Texas, with volunteers who re-enact typical life of the period in each building. Alex was Amanda, a little girl who grew up in a house on the plains and she did some acting: writing letters to friends, getting ready for bed with her grandmother, cleaning her room.

Here are several images we created.
